Thu Sep 24 - Film: Platoon @ Filmhuis Cavia
One of Amsterdam Event Guide’s favourite films.. and if you haven’t seen it, we’ll tell you why you should:
Its got (as most war films do) an absolutely classic soundtrack that transports you into the hazy world of the 60s juxtaposed with the hard edge of war and death. Amazing.
Olive Stone made the actors go into the jungle weeks before filming even started to train like soldiers, live like soldiers and get into the mind-set of soldiers so they would give a ‘real’ portrayal of the characters. ‘Mazing.
It’s got that ultimate camera pan back ‘Noooooo’ scene as Elias is running for his life. ‘Mazing.
It’s actually all about human’s two sides of consciousness and the understanding of the ‘mother’ and ‘father’. It tackles the the wavering nature of structured gender roles in 60s society, jealousy, homosexuality and the complexity of war. Plus it’s just cool in every way. Mazin
You’ll have noticed we’re pretty big fans of this particular cinematic experience. If you haven’t seen it, we command you too, as your officer .. as your friend. We won’t leave you behind!
