LINE UP:
FOOT VILLAGE (USA)
The intention was to host a party, but with these LA kids in town, it may well dissolve into a riot. Don’t expect much of a sound check with a line-up of only drums and megaphone. This is tribal indie punk noise pushed to the extreme. Hit everything, yell until your voice breaks, and just go with it. If a crazy woman screams in your face, it’s all part of the plan.
HOSPITAL BOMBERS
Amsterdam’s own indie rock/folk saviours. We still haven’t tired of their brilliant Footnotes album, and now there’s fresh material in the form of new 7” ‘Butterflies’/’When the Cows Come Home’ (out now on Subbacultcha!). Ease the band into a future without bassist Remco, because it’s still the devil’s music and they’re still the devil’s songs.
SKELETONS
AKA Skeletons and the Girl-Faced Boys, Skeletons and the Kings of All Cities, or even Skeleton$. Whatever the name, this progressive NY-based outfit is utterly fascinating. In fact, it was this polyrhythmic outfit which paved the way for Dirty Projectors to soar this year. That’s not to say they aren’t ready for a piece of the limelight too, and with their African rhythms, jaunty pop and dance-friendly grooves, Skeletons are ready to fly.
TV BUDDHAS (ISR)
Big rock riffs from Israel. If you dig the raw power of their pals Monotonix, you’ll love this duo. Not just bluesy and retro, the hard-gigging group also lose themselves in noise jams designed to keep the audience headbanging.
THE CHAP (UK)
Still digging into a Mega Breakfast? These experimental popsters from London have made a huge Subbacultcha! impression in the past few years. Live, they rip apart their glitchy take on electronic/acoustic sounds and will make you laugh, make you cry, and make you dance
TEENGIRL FANTASY (USA)
This American duo’s lo-fi ’80s style of mid-tempo beats and swirling, reverb-drenched sounds conjure Dan Deacon’s ‘taped-up cables’ vibe. But take it easy through their fantasy while dancing with your partner.
EKLIN
Upcoming experimental indie. These Dutch musicians teeter between atmospheric rock, noise rock and avant-garde drone-scapes.
WOODEN CONSTRUCTIONS
Disco danceable post rock with solid bass grooves is what they do best and this endlessly-gigging local outfit are now a well-oiled outfit able to wow.
EVA BRAUN
Raw, noisy, riot grrrlish indie punk from the visceral locals. This trio has never held back at a gig, so don’t expect them to start now.
THE SECRET LOVE PARADE
These local girls are the sweetest sounding band at the party. Sunny pop melodies burst through their ear-pleasing guitar riffs and synth manipulations while DIY charm and energy abounds in their smile-inducing live performances.
SAELORS
Stripped-back, atmospheric indie folk from this Amsterdam duo who love a bit of drama. Just perfect for an autumn night with the rain lashing down and the wind tearing at your face
YOBKISS
There must be something in the water in Zuid-Holland because Yobkiss is off-the-wall. Indie meets electronica with live drums, extreme laptop manipulation, J-pop vocals and occasional slabs of metal. This is one happy ending.
DJ’S: SOUL BLONDE (SPA) + DANCE, FLOOR & SNOEREND BART + BOEM TAKKIE LAUW + THE NO
