Fri Nov 20 - London Calling Day One @ Paradiso
Friday’s Complete Line-Up
Alberta Cross
Bluesy rock called Alberta Cross. Similarities have been made to Kings of Leon, harnessing the big choruses and the country vibe aesthetic but they haven’t sold out, this is them as is and it’s rather nice.
A Place to Bury Strangers
No one can escape at A Place to Bury Strangers gig and you wouldn’t want to. 30 mins of the drumming noise, heavy distortion and strobe lights, their live shows are intense and rightly so, we love it. Think My Bloody Valentine all the way up to 11.
Esser
Great disco pop from a man who’s hair do is on a par with La Roux’s, it’s Esser. We love this cheeky chappy with his urban pop music stylings and this time round he’s headlining so be sure not to miss him.
Johnny Foreigner
An energetic, hard and fast indie “fight pop” group that isn’t similar to anything else out there, Johnny Foreigner will certainly get the crowd dancing, just hope they’re on a bit later when people are in the mood for it.
King Of Spain
They’re not Spanish, in fact they’re rather British with a slight Art Brut take on the vocals. Paradiso has said that Kings of Spain’s “songs are catchy as chewing gum and fresh as peppermint” .. so there and their sweet indie pop has been loved by critics all over.
The Leisure Society
Today’s musical Britain is all about new takes on folk music, Noah and the Whale, Laura Marling and now The Leisure Society are all delighting at it. Romantic, intricate and catchy as hell this band know how to whop out a good tune. inspiring beautiful. www.myspace.com / theleisuresociety
Little Death
Electro influenced garage rock with members from all over the world, Little Death are a big treat making sexy, fuzzy distortion sounds with emotional and raw vocals to boot.
Sad Day for Puppets
We’re self-confessed Swedophiles so we knew we were going to love Sad Day for Puppets right off the bat and they don’t disappoint. Hot girl singer, check. Shoe graze grunge, check. Catchy melodies and 90s attire, check and check. Can’t go wrong seeing this group live.
The Twilight Sad
Our friends over at The Glasgow Podcart have been championing some of the best Scottish music through their delightful podcasts and this name crops up on everyone’s list time and time again. The Twilight Sad are, like many bands north of the English border, simply stunning. “Impressive, compelling, dark, dark and venomous” so the Paradiso say..
We Were Promised Jet Packs
Our favourite lads and our highlight of the friday line-up absolutely amazed a packed Paradiso audience last time they played in Amsterdam. Their thunderous and emotional indie rock hit the hearts of the crowd and we assure you that this show will be packed to the rafters so get there in time. Check out our interview with the group mere.
