Tender ‘N Tasty
a new exhibition by fine artist Joe Holbrook
What happens at night when everybody is left wandering home? After the clubs have blasted their last basses, after the fried chicken take away’s are attacked by hungry hipsters? The city is left with the residue of nightly escapades. . “I’ve been noticing every time you get in a bus or tube in London nowadays somebody is eating out of a chicken box. And nobody really sees it, if you know what I mean?”
In the new exhibition Tender ‘N Tasty fine artist Joe Holbrook searches for these residues. He finds vultures roaming the streets, deers wondering around town and heaps of empty and half full chicken boxes. In his realistic painting style Joe knows how to capture the energy and dynamics of his spirit of time. For the exhibition Joe created eight new bodies of work, plus 4 framed drawings that have all been created in his London studio. Joe doesn’t only observe and document the world that he sees, he lives that world.
The last year has been a busy year for the young artist. After having his first exhibition (25th of February) opening in the Bodhi Gallery on Bricklane (London) it went fast. In April he came over to Amsterdam for a group show at Streetlab and two days later he was hooked to the city of Amsterdam. In June Joe returned for a two month working visit which resulted in his second show ‘In Deep’ at the Rooms of Red Bull. At the end of 2009 a new show opened in Aarhus (Denmark) together with the Amsterdam artist Lil’ Shy.
Now Joe is back in Amsterdam with the plan to stay, live and work in the city. His first exhibition of 2010 titled ‘Tender ‘N Tasty’ opens on the 29th of january in the Sid Lee Gallery in Amsterdam.
