Photography Competition with 10,000 Euro Prize!

The Bouw in Beeldprijs (‘Construction/Building in Images Prize’) is an annual photography competition which offers photographers living and working in the Netherlands the chance to compete for a prize of €10,000.

The theme for this year’s Bouw in Beeldprijs is ‘Back Home’: Everyone has memories of early childhood or the place where he/she grew up. It is the place where our roots are but ‘home’ is also the place where we live and where our loved ones are. It is a real place, but also a feeling. In order to realize what ‘home’ is, many of us must first be away from it. How does ‘back home’ feel? How do we remember it? How does it look, what images does it conjure? Where are we from & what have we seen along the way? And how do we get back…home? The idea of this year’s Bouw in Beeld is to capture this theme and feeling in photos.

Details

Portfolios and project motivations for the 2010 Bouw in Beeldprijs must be submitted by 27 January 2010 (that’s less than a week to go, so if you’re a photographer living and working in NL or know someone who is- get on it!).

From these submissions, the best work will be selected, by a highly respected jury, leaving 10 finalists. These 10 will then get the opportunity to develop new work within the ‘Back Home’ theme. In June and July the work of the 10 finalists will be exhibited at the Cobra Museum for Modern Art in Amstelveen as well as two other TBA cultural venues in NL. A reward of €10,000 awaits the winner! This is the highest amount awarded in the Netherlands for an annual photography prize. This will be awarded at the opening of the exhibition at the Cobra Museum.

The Bouw in Beeldprijs is run by the Edgar Degas Foundation, with Ballast Nedam as key sponsor. Ballast Nedam began the Bouw in Beeldprijs back in 2007, based on the term ‘Construction/Building’ and the ideas and images in inspires.
