The thought process remains the same.. the best news on gigs, club nights, high brow/low class art exhbitions and late night film events, all brought to you on a horizontal plate called a computer. Valtifest @ NDSM

Valtifest, the festival that first brought Holland Lady Gaga and Major Lazer is back for a 3rd year with a cracking line-up of homegrown talent as well as international and a few surprises thrown in for good measure.

As always the one day/night event is themed and this time ‘celebrates the freedom and tolerance with the theme “It’s a Religion!”‘ – not sure what that quite means but from looking at previous years pictures, anything goes, the bigger and bolder the better.

MUSIC:

Some highlights from the program are: the world premiere of Junkie XL’s new project Cosmic Rave, the new sensation Baltimore Rye Rye, the comeback of Whitey rounder and a final show of the apostles of the disco Aeroplane.

Mr. Valtifest himself Joost van Bellen, with a colorful parade to over-see the grand opening. The percussive electro of the Brazilian Mix Hell DJ’s, Iggor Cavalera (Sepultura) are interspersed with sunny beats from Tommie Sunshine. New live acts and DJs such as L-vis 1990, Ou Est Le Swimming Pool and the new sensation Baltimore Rye Rye stand alongside famous artists such as Whitey, who recently signed for one of the best albums of the year.

Wow, what a week. We hope the sun stays out, even if it doesn’t its going to be shining out from the Paradiso stages with some of the best acts around at the moment. The superb Matt And Kim – the duo who famously stripped down (yes, NAKED style!) to film one of their videos. The Drums, the flamboyant synth, ’surf’ pop from New York. Major Lazer.. bringing in some heavy beats, trible rhythms and industrial electro…! Oh this is going to be awesome. And it doesn’t stop there..

Amsterdam Beat Club Festival @ OT301

The very first Amsterdam BeatClub Festival will take place at OT 301.

Both the café/restaurant, the main concerthall + the barroom will be filled with bands, dj’s, cool imagery and fun!

Some special performances are planned; West Hell 5 will play a set with live soundtrack for cult movies on the big screen.

The Mieters give new meanings to the word ”Nederbiet” and Los Tiki Boys always tears the house down with their fine blend of Surf and Exotica.

Amsterdam Street Art Festival @ CITY WIDE

“Project Amsterdam Street Art (Project ASA) is a young organisation with creative artists and entrepreneurs, who have a passion for street art. We see that street art-wise something is missing in Amsterdam. Similar European cities already have diverse street art events. Through organising street art related (sub) events in Amsterdam, we are aiming to get to a same level as other European cities.

There are lots of exciting developments going on in the street art scene. Artists improve their techniques. Street art is becoming an accepted form of art in the international artscene. The streets can be seen as an open gallery, which can be visited day and night. Just look around you and be surprised and amazed. Street art is what makes the streetscape more attractive and beautiful.

Our goal is to set up an annual recurrent event and that it will become recognized in the European street art scene. During the second week of June (8-12 June) we organise our first event. Happenings such as exhibition openings, paint jams and afterparties are taking place within a period of five days. Locations are: Bobs Youth Hostel, Bep Gallery, Outland Records Gallery, De Duivel, The Thought Gallery, GO Gallery and afterparties at Sugar Factory (Hells Kitchen) and Flexbar (Undercover).

Artists who will be invading Amsterdam are coming all the way from countries such as Canada, Italy, England and of course The Netherlands itself. We are very proud to have the following artists at our first event: The London Police, Hugo Kaagman, Pez, Ives.One, Galo, Flying Fortress, K74, NOL, Fake, Farkfk, Recall One, Orticanoodles, Faunagraphic, Bue The Warrior, Chase and Indigo. We would not be surprised if the invited artists will leave their trademark outside on the streets in Amsterdam.”
