An exhibition by Joe Holbrook

The nightlife has always been a source of inspiration for many artists. Nowadays with new technologies like digital photography we have come to a moment where the nightlife might be more captured then lived. Digital snapshots, from last nights party appear on a website where they are served like fastfood, after all there are always more websites with crazier photos from wilder parties.

Having travelled all over the world, in cities like London, Prague, Dubai and many others, London based artist Joe Holbrook is no stranger to the crazy and wild nightlife. Upon returning to the studio Holbrook takes the photos he captured on film the night before, and goes trough a selection. In the serenity of his workspace Holbrook works on his portrayal of the anonymous nightlife. His work transcends the quick fix of last night party photos but become a insightful look into a scene and the people that make that scene.

For the last two months Joe Holbrook has been working and living in Amsterdam. With a mind full of inspiration and love, Holbrook has left the city of London behind him. Upon arrival Holbrook immediately fell into the nightlife of Amsterdam while visiting places like Cafe Belgique, Bitterzoet, Winston Kingdom, De Kring and many more house parties from new friends. Meanwhile setting up shop in his new temporary workspace at the Rooms of Redbull in the Red Light District, to work on his unique paintings.

His second exhibition titled ‘In Deep’ will see a new installation of paintings all made in Amsterdam. These paintings will portray the nightlife and the people of Amsterdam, that make the nightlife to what it is. A vibrant, full of energy, full of surprises escape from daily worries.
