Experimental takes on three different musical genres all mixing together to form one highly impressive line-up.

Fuck Buttons, the UK duo, have built up a loyal fan base in the past few years with their wonderfully complex electronic beats and compositions. Think along the lines of a fast-paced Mogwai and the NYC band Battles in terms of song build-up and scope.

Health and their synth-hardcore-rock song Die Slow (below) is one of the stand out singles of the year for us. Just listen to that driving mash-up of industrial noise, the eerie vocals and the thumping drums all merging together to transport you into a dreamy, steamy world of basement parties and getting all messy with art kids. Perfect.

And lastly the wonderful Picture Plane who pay a great homage to the big beat, swaying reverb and whistle sounds of the early 90s mixing with DnB rhythms, electro build ups, new wave melodies and girl singing a la early/recent Prodigy: ‘Come with us to the dance floor.. you and me, cos that what it’s for!’ Ohhhh it’s going to be a great show all round.

Nite Jewel @ Katapult – Studio 80

Nite Jewel produce seamless and polished electronic pop, perfect for early morning listening when you can’t bring yourself to open the curtains (as that will mean the night is over and the guilt you’re still awake will set in).

Keep the night alive with this ‘liquid cool’ music performing live at Katapult and follow it with some party electro from resident DJs.

Telepathe @ De Nieuwe Anita

Hurrah, De Nieuwe Anita is back from a well deserved summer break. For the first Subba Cultcha night there in a while, favourites Telepathe will be back on stage and it going to be a corker!

Here’s the Subba Cultcha write up :

‘They’re from Brooklyn, they sing, and they used to be in guitar bands. (They also have good clothes and elaborate hair.) But despite the guitars (and the hair), they’re actually pretty much all about the beat. Many, many layers of beat with bass and drums and synths, and then, on top, come the vocals that are lovely ‘n’ cool. The beat is way more important to them than the guitar ever was – or so it sounds. And it sounds good. Then they say ‘I’ll fuck it up, you ought to know,’, and we really, really don’t want to believe them. If that doesn’t sell it to you, Mr Hipster, TV on the Radio guitarist Dave Sitek produced their debut album Dance Mother.’
